Cicero logo (Post#7)

When it comes to my logo, I think it would be creative if I am going to emphasise the letters 'C','E','R' within the word "Cicero". This is because, I got this idea of having my tagline as "The Continental European Restaurant" so stressing those letters would be quite interesting.

This can be done by either having the 3 letters in bold, italic or in different type colour.

With the word "Cicero", I've experimented with different typefaces. Among of these, I prefer the one that is in Helvetica Neue, not because it is a very famous typeface but to me, it kinda gives the word a European character (specially the letter E).

Probably because it is the one that has been used for "European Union"

With the word "Cicero" in Helvetica Neue, I've now thought of different ways where I could bring the concept of typographic measurements to my logo. Since Cicero is unit of measure used in typography, I'm thinking that maybe I could have arrow(s) as part of my design. It is the element that we use to indicate the portion that we measure in typography, therefore I believe that by having this will reinforce the idea of Cicero.

I think substituting one of Cicero’s letters with an arrow is creative and smart.

Since the tagline is a bit long, I got this idea of having the word ‘Cicero’ ranged left. This would give greater emphasis on the arrow

(Please refer to my sketchbook for my explanations of these ideas)
Because the tagline is a bit long, I'm having trouble placing it underneath the word "Cicero" without having it appear too small. Therefore, instead of keeping it into one line of text, I've decided to have it into three lines.

I kinda want my logo to have something that will reinforce the idea of having everything in my restaurant typographically measured. So for my logo’s final stages of development,I’ve decided to add construction lines. They are used in determining the dimension of typographic characters, therefore I think having them as part of my logo will emphasise the identity of my restaurant.

So here, I've used the first letter of my restaurant's name as my marque. Now, in order to achieve the idea, I've added something into it that defines its letterform. Doing this, I believe will provide me with a powerful and creative looking marque.

I want the marque to appear prominent that's why I got it in a massive size.
Looking at the marque, I love how the curve of the 'C' works well with the circle.
I don't think this is possible if the 'c' is in Helvetica Neue.

Europe has got a lot of culture and tradition. Therefore, I've decided to use serif based typeface (Times New Roman), inorder to give that element of humanity and culture together with the very technical, European, swiss typeface Helvetica Neue. This is why I've set the big 'C' in different typeface.

This would make my logo interesting as it would have
contrast between two typefaces (Serif and Sans Serif).

To finish off my logo, I've used red as its main colour because it gives it a European feel. Here, I've also emphasised the word "European" to push more the idea of my European themed restaurant.

When it comes to things like menu, same typefaces are going to be applied. Page headers in my menu will be in set in Times New Roman while the food descriptions in Helvetica. I think this will work well as there will be a link between my logo and menu.
